Herod’s system

Friday August 8th, Matthew 14: 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."  Great seminar Jesus!!!  The people learned a lot that they can apply to parts of their lives.  Now before things get ugly because they think you have gone on too long let’s send them back into the imperial kingdom.  That is where Herod’s system and Herod’s economics will feed them.  That is where they may be able to get a minimal job someday with minimal pay to try to feed themselves and their families.  We on the other hand will go on and listen to you some more, biding our time until you establish the Kingdom and we become leaders in your cabinet of power.  Jesus instead calls us to a different reality.  A reality where it is the least, lost and lonely who are called.  It is a reality where all are part of the Kingdom of God and where all are welcome.  It is a reality where Isaiah’s call, "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost” becomes our call as the children of God in this world. Jesus’ reality for the world is not just different from the imperial reality, it is counter to it.  What would Jesus call you to do?  What are you doing?
